An arrest has been made in the 2015 homicide of Betty Jean King on George Road in Brooklet. Although the case eventually went cold, investigators and crime scene technicians continually reviewed witness statements and physical evidence to identify new leads. This year, investigators were able to establish probable cause against Perry Edwards. Arrest warrants were issued for Edwards on June 16, and he was indicted by the Bulloch County Grand Jury on September 20. On October 29, he was booked into the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains, awaiting arraignment. He has been charged with Malice Murder, 3 counts of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and False Imprisonment.
From Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office:
On June 6, 2015, a family member discovered the deceased body of Betty Jean King inside her George Road residence in Bulloch County. Ms. King had suffered multiple blunt force injuries. Deputies and investigators with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office responded, processed the scene, and collected key evidence.
Although evidence was submitted to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab and numerous interviews were conducted, the case eventually went cold. Over the following years, investigators and crime scene technicians continually reviewed witness statements and physical evidence to identify new leads.
That persistent review ultimately enabled investigators to establish probable cause against Perry Edwards. Arrest warrants were issued for Edwards on June 16, 2026, and he was indicted by the Bulloch County Grand Jury on September 20, 2026. On October 29, 2026, Edwards was booked into the Bulloch County Jail, where he is currently being held awaiting arraignment.
District Attorney Catherine Sumner has formally charged Edwards with: Malice Murder, Felony Murder (3 counts), Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and False Imprisonment.
Sheriff Noel Brown and District Attorney Sumner commended the dedicated investigators whose relentless efforts brought this cold case to a breakthrough.
“Our investigators never gave up on finding answers,” said Sheriff Brown. “Their dedication reflects our commitment to seeking justice for Betty King and bringing long-awaited closure to her family.”
