In early November, Beckie Snyder, Administrative Assistance to AVPSA, sent out a call to the college for donations to help prepare Thanksgiving dinner packages for families in need. “We had such an overwhelming response from our faculty, staff, and students,” said Snyder. “Within a matter of days, we had enough donated goods to put together meal packages for dozens of families.”

Among the items that were donated were canned goods like corn, yams, green beans, and cranberry sauce, as well as boxed and bagged goods like rice, macaroni and cheese, potatoes, and marshmallows. Each thanksgiving meal came with a turkey that the OTC Foundation and the OASIS Food Pantry partnered together to provide.

“It was such a pleasure to be able to partner with Beckie to help provide our students with a special meal for thanksgiving this year,” said, Michelle Davis, VP for College Advancement. “We are all family here at OTC and it’s great to know the lengths at which our faculty and staff go to help others who are in need during this holiday season.”

OASIS (Outreach Assisting Students in Shortage) Food Pantry was opened in January of 2020 to serve OTC students, faculty, and staff who may have food needs. The food pantry received such an overwhelming amount of donations that they were able to bolster their supply even after preparing packages for 27 families.

Ogeechee on the Go is the name of Ogeechee Technical College’s community service initiative. OTC students and employees routinely participate in projects designed to support worthwhile causes within the community.
