Local Teens Are Out to Make a Difference

Three Bryan County teens have been recognized as The President’s Service Award winner — an honor presented to individuals whose service positively impacts their community and inspires those around them to take action.

Garrett Chesser, a student at Richmond Hill Middle School, earned her third Gold Service Award. Chesser has completed 1,370 hours of service benefiting her community in 2019 and 2020.

Clayton Hooks, a student at Richmond Hill High School, and Shelby Bilyeu, a student at Savannah Christian School, earned their Bronze Service Award.

According to the program’s website, “The PVSA has continued under each administration, honoring the volunteers who are using their time and talents to solve some of the toughest challenges facing our nation.” The SD Gunner Fund has presented 23 Presidential Service Medals to members of the community, both adults and children, in 2019 and 2020 for a total of 20,260 logged service hours!

These logged hours are equivalent to an economic value of $551,072.00.

The students were presented with their awards by Richmond Hill City Councilmen Robbie Ward and Steve Scholar at the J.F. Gregory Park during their SD Gunner Fund session.
