Glynn County recreation department offering summer camps for kids, adults

Glynn County Parks and Recreation Department announce summer camps.

Summer camps are popular in Glynn County, and the local recreation department has camp offerings for kids and adults scheduled over the next several weeks.

The Glynn County Recreation and Parks Department is hosting its Summer Camp at Howard Coffin Park throughout the rest of June and most of July.

The camp actually started earlier this month and goes through July 27. The camp is open to all kids ages 5-12 and participants pay by the week. The cost is $45 per camper each week.

Also, as you might expect, swim lessons are popular during the summer months and the recreation department offers lessons at each of its three pools – the Neptune Fun Zone on St. Simons Island, Selden Park in Brunswick and also the Brunswick Aquatics Center at Howard Coffin Park.

Lessons are available for children starting at 6 months old and the county also offers lessons for adults. The county conducts group lessons but also will accommodate those preferring private sessions.

Also, the county is offering several options for tennis lessons throughout the remainder of June and also in July.

At the Epworth Park courts on St. Simons Island, weekly lessons are going on now through June 28 on Tuesdays and Thursdays for kids ages 4-14. The sessions go from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Each session is $65. The instruction is provided by Mary Brooke Kersey and Paul Rausch.

Also in July, there will be lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 5-31.

Additional lessons are also being offered at the North Glynn courts in Brunswick. The instructors are JT Powell and Frank Solana.

An Intermediate camp is currently taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays through June 28. The sessions go from 5:30-6:30 p.m. An Advanced Camp is also taking place through June 28 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and it runs from 4-5:30 p.m. each time.

Again next month, there will be Intermediate and Advanced camps from July 3-26. The camps also take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same times as those listed above.

Both Intermediate and Advanced camps are for youth ages 7-17.

Kids’ Tennis Camps and Clinics will also be held on St. Simons Island and in Brunswick later this summer..

The camps at Epworth Park on the island are coming up on June 19-21, July 10-12, July 17-19 and July 24-26. Each session is $80 per participant. Sessions are for ages 4-6 and 7-14.

Also at North Glynn on the mainland, future camps will be held July 2-6 and August 6-10. The cost is $50 per session and sessions are for ages 4-14.

In July, the county will also host the British Soccer Camp set for July 16-20 at Frederica Park on St. Simons Island.

The camp is open to youth ages 4-17.

Also noteworthy are the martial arts/self-defense classes taught through the county year-round.

The instructor is Jerry Mauney. These classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Ballard Community Building in Brunswick.

The classes are for youth ages 5 and up and also adults. Family participation is encouraged.

According to a release on the county web site, the classes include a blend of martial arts techniques including American Karate. Students will have the opportunity to advance through levels of skill and achieve belts.

The cost is $50 per month. Family discounts are available.

Also, the county recreation department is currently reminding everyone through its web site that registration for youth soccer, football and cheerleading this fall will take place during July.
