Chattooga’s Meagan Perry awarded Gates Scholarship

Meagan Perry, Chattooga High School’s FFA chapter president was named one of only 300 Gates Scholars for the Gates Scholarship inaugural class of 2018 from over 28,700 applicants.

The Gates scholarship is a minority scholarship that cover all the expenses that comes with college (tuition , housing, meal plan, books/supplies, student insurance, etc.) that is not already covered by financial aid. It will also allow Perry to study abroad one time and purchase one laptop during college. “I plan to attend the University of Georgia and study Public Relations. I’m not sure what career I will be pursuing with my degree but I am weighing options such as public relations specialist, event planner, and more,” Perry said.

Perry has been in the FFA since the 7th grade. The FFA has helped me to become much more social and outgoing. I’ve also grown my public speaking skills expontentionally throughout these years. I’ve just become a lot more open and confident and it’s all thanks to them,” Perry said.

The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, full scholarship for exceptional, Pell-eligible, minority, high school seniors. Starting in 2018, the scholarship will be awarded to 300 top student leaders each year with the intent of promoting their academic excellence through college graduation, and providing them the opportunity to reach their full potential.
