Georgia Tech recruiting trip goes well for several Chattooga High School students

Over the summer, Head Basketball Coach Jared Groce and the Chattooga High School varsity boys’ basketball team attended the Georgia Tech Team Camp. During the visit, there were a few dual sport athletes  who showed interest in playing either football or basketball at Georgia Tech. Brad Waggoner, former head football coach at Chattooga High School, currently works in the recruiting department at Georgia Tech and has been following the careers of several of Chattooga’s athletes.  Coach Waggoner has 4 Chattooga High School athletes on his recruiting list, Travell Bankston, Dee McCutchins, Isaiah Foster and Isaac Foster. All four students attended the Georgia Tech vs North Carolina game, checking in with other potential Georgia Tech recruits and received a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of Georgia Tech’s state-of-the-art facilities. They toured the weight room, the locker room and the athletic association. The students watched Georgia Tech’s pre-game warm-up from the sidelines and met Georgia Tech football coaches, current players and former players including Joe Hamilton. Coach Brad Waggoner was on hand to make sure the recruits’ visit was top notch.

Indians Basketball Head Coach Jared Groce has taken his team to 5 Division 1 basketball camps over past 2 summers including Georgia Tech, FSU, Auburn, Georgia State and Kennesaw State. While at the FSU camp this summer, the Indians “went 10-0 and beat the defending AA State Champs for the state of Georgia twice.”

Coach Groce told All On Georgia, “of course, everyone has a greater chance to play college football, so ultimately, I just want to help them reach the next level any way they can.”

Coach Groce also bragged on his players academics, stating that the Foster Twins had the 2 highest GPAs on the basketball team, “they’re competitive with anything and everything they do.”

While Seniors Travell Bankston and Dee McCutchins will be visiting many more schools this year, the Foster twins are only juniors and will have another football season and two more basketball seasons to impress coaches.
