After playing 3 games last week, the Lady Dogs have worked hard to get to the NGAC championship. Last Tuesday the girl fell short against Heritage losing 10-1. However on Wednesday, their last regular season game they were successful beating Ringgold in 8 innings 9-8. Whitney Shepherd took the mound with 10 strikeouts while only walking 2 and hitting 1 batter. Trion’s offense consisted of Shelby Carlock (double, 3 singles, 2 RBI’s), Shepherd (double, single, 3 RBI’s), Jenna Mosley (2 singles), Kaylie Bell (2 singles, 1 RBI, SAC, HBP), Gracie Burns (double, 1 RBI), Lily Keen (RBI), Chloe Murdock (single, RBI), Emma Witt (2 singles, RBI), and Jodie Henderson (walk).
The NGAC tournament began Thursday but with the Lady Dog’s wins during the season gave them the first round bye. This past Friday they faced Chattanooga Valley winning 6-5 in another 8 inning game. Shepherd took the mound again having 9 more strikeouts in the books while only allowing 2 walks and 1 hit batter. Trion’s offense consisted of Murdock (2 singles, walk, RBI with the game winning hit), Mosley (2 singles), Bell (single, 2 RBI’s), Shepherd (double), Carlock (single, catcher’s interference), Burns (single, RBI), Henderson (SAC), and Witt (single).
With Friday’s win, this took the Lady Dogs to the championship (Best of 3 games) against Heritage. First game will be played today at 5:00 at Heritage Middle School. The 2nd and 3rd (if necessary) game will be played tomorrow (Tuesday) at Trion at 5:00. Come out and support these young ladies! They have worked hard all season long!
