County Commissioners to Hold Public Hearings for Proposed Property Tax Increase

The Bulloch County Board of Commissioners will be holding three public hearings at the Bulloch County Annex, concerning the proposed estimated amount of a 18.1% property tax increase. Bulloch county citizens are encouraged to attend and give their input.

The first two hearings will be on Tuesday, July 28 at 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The third will be on Tuesday, August 4 at 5:30 pm.

The commissioners voted to pass the 2016 budget of $36.58 million on June 30. The 2016 budget is $2.95 million more than the 2015 budget. The county has more needs due to many different factors, including population growth and the fact that Bulloch County has become a growing social hot spot for surrounding areas. The last time taxes were raised was in 2007. The county has already cut expenses everywhere else possible, trying to avoid a tax increase.

The 18.1% is an estimated percentage. There are different variations, which include location and homestead exemption.
