Jury Finds Price Not Guilty of Murder, Guilty on Two Lesser Charges in Oak Street Shooting Death

A Chattooga County jury has reached a verdict in the trial of Deoveon LaWayne Price, the 25-year-old Summerville man charged in the June 6, 2025, shooting death of 27-year-old Christopher “D.J.” Chapman.

Following several days of testimony in Chattooga County Superior Court, jurors found Price not guilty of malice murder and not guilty of felony murder. He was found guilty on the remaining two charges: aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Price was represented by defense attorneys Sutton Connelly and Steve Miller. The case was prosecuted by Lynsay Chapman of the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.

Sentencing has not yet been scheduled and will take place at a later date.
