A South Georgia woman charged with murder after taking an abortion pill has been released on a $1 bond, as legal experts question whether the case will hold up in court.
Alexia Moore, 31, spent nearly three weeks in jail before a judge set her bond at just one dollar for the murder charge, calling it “extremely problematic” and difficult to prosecute.
Authorities say Moore went to a hospital in Camden County in December 2025, where staff determined she was pregnant. She told medical personnel she had taken misoprostol, commonly used in medication abortions, along with oxycodone. Records indicate she was approximately 22 to 24 weeks pregnant.
The infant was delivered at the hospital and lived for about an hour before being pronounced dead.
Moore was later arrested by Kingsland police on March 4 and charged with felony murder under Georgia’s homicide law—not the state’s abortion statute.
Legal experts say the case hinges on Georgia’s fetal personhood provision, which defines an unborn child as a legal person. However, similar cases in the past have been dismissed, and questions remain about whether a pregnant woman can be prosecuted for ending her own pregnancy.
The District Attorney has not yet secured an indictment, and the case remains pending.
