Previous Release:

At approximately 3:00 pm today the Chattooga County Sheriffs Office, Summerville Fire Dept, GA Dept of Natural Resources along with Park Management of Sloppy Floyd State Park responded to a report of a possible drowning at the State Park. The Investigation revealed that a 16 year old male, from out of town, was camping with family when he decided to go fishing. He was fishing in an area that had a steep bank. It appears that he may have had a medical episode and fell into the water. A family that was walking a trail above him located him in the water. Unfortunately, he had already been in the water too long. Please be in prayer for this family as their planned weekend turned tragic. Coroner Rainwater and Atrium Health Floyd also assisted in the investigation and recovery.
