The Ladies of Fall are ready for Softball Season

With softball season coming up at Chattooga High School, AllOnGeorgia will be previewing all of the players, as well as head Coach, Jeff Bennett. 

With softball season coming up at Chattooga High School, AllOnGeorgia will be previewing all of the players, as well as head Coach, Jeff Bennett.

 

The Lady Indians have five seniors this season, Libby Veatch, Ally Croy, Kaymin Calaway, Katie Hogue, and Sophie Webb. Libby Veatch is a three year starter at first base. She is also a part of FCCLA at CHS (Chattooga High School). Ally Croy is a four year starter, and will be catching this year. She also plays for a travel softball team. Kaymin Calaway is a two year starter at pitcher. She is also involved in HOSA at CHS. Katie Hogue is also a two year starter at third base. Katie is a part of the bass fishing team at CHS. Sophie Webb is a first year starter and loves to play the guitar.

 

Chattooga Softball has two juniors this year, Tori Ward and Heavenleigh Phillips. Both of these ladies are second year starters and both in the outfield. Tori plays center field and Heavenleigh plays left along with pitching. Tori is also a part of the basketball, soccer, and track teams. Heavenleigh is a part of the FCA organization at CHS.

 

There are also five sophomores for the Lady Indians. Addie Veatch, Alexis Womack, Bella Burdick, Brinley Thomas, and Gracie Hogue. Addie Veatch is a second year starter at shortstop and lead off batter for the Lady Indians. Addie is also the point guard for the Chattooga basketball team. Alexis Womack plays in right field and is also an officer for CHS HOSA. Bella Burdick plays outfield and first base and also helps with athletic training and sports medicine with Chattooga sports trainer. Brinley Thomes is a first year starter at pitcher and second base. She is also an officer for CHS HOSA. Gracie Hogue plays in the outfield. Gracie also enjoys tumbling.

 

The Lady Indians also have five freshmen. Annabelle Brown, Josie Gazaway, A’lexus King, Emily Hughes, and Molly Gregory. Annabelle Brown plays in the outfield and at second base. She enjoys playing with her brother and swimming. Josie Gazaway plays at shortstop and enjoys riding four wheelers. A’lexus King is a catcher and enjoys shopping outside of sports and school. Emily Hughes is a pitcher and plays second base. She is also in FCA and plays travel ball. Molly Gregory plays at first and third base. She is also a member of FFA at CHS.

Coach Jeff Bennett has coached a total of 46 years, he started coaching in 1981.

Coach Bennett is very proud of his senior group this year. “I have Libby Ann and Ally who have been with me for four years, Katie and Sophie have been with me for two years and Kymin for three. They are very good leaders and I expect a lot from them,” Coach Bennett said.

He has a few new players on the team this year, “the new players are very good young players and a couple have a chance to play in some varsity games.”

For pitching this season the Lady Indians have Kaymin Calaway and Brinley Thomas as their starters and also have Heavenleigh Phillips and Emily Hughes who maybe used in the pitching rotation.

Some of the heavy hitters for the Lady Indians will be Libby Veatch, Ally Croy, Kaymin Calaway, and Katie Hogue.

Coach Bennett’s goal for this season is to have a winning record and make the state playoffs, “the girls have team goals for the seasons also.”

The Lady Indian motto this year is ‘Pass the bat’.

The Lady Indians will have some tough region games and Bowden will also be a tough game for them.

Coach Bennett’s message to the fans and supporters of the softball team is, “I would like to thank our fans. They have been very supportive throughout the past years and I hope they’re very supportive this year. We have a really good ball club this season”.

Libby Ann Veatch is a talented and passionate senior at Chattooga High School who worked with the Indian Lore for three years. She is a member of the Lady Indian Softball team, Attack Fast Pitch, and FCCLA. After high school Libby Ann plans to go to cosmetology school and become a hair stylist.
