In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month, students in the Dental Assisting program at Ogeechee Technical College visited Pre-K classrooms across the area to teach about oral health.
Each group of Dental Assisting students was responsible for creating their own presentation and educating students about oral health and nutrition. Each OTC student facilitated games, talked about germ bugs (bacterial plaque), proper brushing habits, flossing, snack choices, and what a trip to the dentist will be like. Each child received a new toothbrush and coloring sheets.
Dental Assisting Program Director, Yvonne Jenkins, said that she was pleased by how hard her students worked on their presentations.
“I’m happy that we have the opportunity to share this information with the children. It is important that children start good dental health habits now for a lifetime of good oral health,” said Jenkins.
OTC students visited the following area Pre-K classrooms for their presentations: Brooklet Elementary, Bulloch Academy, Southeast Bulloch, and Stilson Elementary. They also visited Bryan County Head Start and Tombs County Head Start.
