MLK National Holiday Observance Parade, Community Service & Celebration in Statesboro January 16

To celebrate the life and legacy of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, the 2023 MLK National Holiday Observance parade in Statesboro will be on Monday, January 16 at 2:00 pm. This year’s theme is “Community, This Is Power”.  The event is hosted by the Bulloch County Branch of the NAACP.

Langston Chapel Middle School teacher, Quincy J. Hills, was presented the honor of being the Grand Marshal of this year’s parade. Hills is a well-known and well-loved teacher and member of the community, and has earned several awards over the past few years.

• August 2019 – Bryan County Middle School Teacher of the Year – Bryan County Middle School
• December 2019 – Bryan County Schools Teacher of the Year – Bryan County Middle School
• November 2020 – Dr. Gamble-Hilton Outstanding Achievement Award – Langston Chapel Middle School
• September 2021 – College Football Playoff Foundation Extra Yard for Teachers Grant Recipient – Langston Chapel Middle School
• February 2022 – Student Support Team Association for Georgia Educators (SSTAGE) Star Award for Promising Practices Finalist – Langston Chapel Middle School

The parade route will begin at East Olliff and North Main Street, continue through downtown Statesboro, turn at the center of town onto West Main Street, then right onto MLK, and end at Luetta Moore Park.

Following the parade, a Community Service and Celebration at Elm Street Church of God will begin at 3:00 pm, with Reverend Daniel Foster III, Reverend Christopher Culbreth, Dr Alexander Smith Jr, and Pastor Brock Taylor & United Voices for Christ.
