The Chattooga County Young Farmers will host their 8th Annual Pig Project Show and Auction Monday, November 7th at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center. The show will begin at 6 pm and the auction will follow.
“This will be a great opportunity to support the youth of our community,” said Lauren Jarrett, Chattooga County Young Farmer Advisor. “The proceeds will go to the students who purchased and raised the pigs and the buyers will get to stock their freezer with homegrown pork.”
FFA and 4-H members have been raising the pigs since June for the show and auction. The pigs were purchased from The University of Georgia Swine Program.
Students participating in the project this year are: Lane Bridges, Cody Corbin, Lillie Dooley, Natalie Edwards, Callen Kerce, Tanner Nutter, Tate Whitlock and Joshua Willingham.
Bidding will start at $1 per pound and the pigs will be transported by the Young Farmers for processing. The processing costs will be the responsibility of the buyer.
The Young Farmers chapter has also been selling changes on a hog and processing. Tickets are $5 each and the winner will be drawn at the show.
The Chattooga County Young Farmers is the adult education program of Chattooga County Schools. The pig project is a special project the group facilitates annually to provide opportunities for FFA and 4-H members.
