Rick Allen, Eugene Yu qualify for GA-12 race

Two candidates are in for the Republican primary in Georgia’s 12th Congressional district.

Congressman Rick W. Allen (R, GA-12) who was elected in 2014 after defeating Democrat John Barrow, qualified for a second term in office Monday. Just behind him? One of his competitors from the 2014 Republican Primary.

Allen took the primary in 2014 with 53.99% of the vote in a five person race while Yu pulled in 16.52%. Now, Yu is touting a message that Allen has fallen victim to the Washington system and is not voting the way he promised on the campaign trail. “These career politicians are like bad salesmen,” Yu told the Metro Spirit during his 2014 campaign. “They are smooth talking, selling a bad product to folks.”

Contrarily, Allen, with two years under his belt, offers a message of reason and compromise and a history of negative campaign ads on his opponent.

Qualifying for all elected officers ends Friday at noon, but there have been few rumors of additional candidates for the GA-12 race. The election is May 24th.
