The review will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the boardroom of the school district’s Central Office, 150 Williams Road in Statesboro.

Sexuality Education Lessons

The review is for families to look, learn, and ask questions about the Sexuality Education lessons that students in middle and high school will be taught during  March 28 through May 20.

These are the grade levels who are scheduled to receive age-appropriate Sexuality Education instruction this spring:

  • All students in grades six through nine
    • William James Middle and Southeast Bulloch Middle students will be taught in their Science classes
    • Langston Chapel Middle and Portal Middle students will be taught by a variety of their teachers
    • Southeast Bulloch High, Statesboro High, and Portal High students will be taught in ninth-grade Health and Physical Education classes

On March 13, middle and high school families will receive a reminder via telephone and email about this upcoming instruction. On March 15, the school district will send home a parent packet that includes a letter to parents, an invitation to the Parent Review Night, and an opt-out form home with students. The Parent Packet is also attached.

The Parent Night event provides families an opportunity to review the curriculum or choose to opt their child out of the lessons prior to instruction. Families may also visit the parent toolkit on the school district website via this link. Parents may also call their child’s school to request an individual review appointment.

Bulloch County Schools’ approved Sexuality Education Program lessons are fact-based and developed with input from local faculty, health professionals, and parents. Bulloch County Schools is required by state law and local Board of Education policy to provide these lessons to students.

Families will receive a reminder via telephone and email about this upcoming instruction. All schools are closed on Monday, March 14, for a teacher in service day, but when students return on March 15, they will be given a parent packet to bring home. The packet includes a letter to parents, an invitation to the Parent Review Night, and an opt-out form should families choose to use it. Students who are opted-out will be sent to a supervised location with an alternate assignment.

This information is also available on the district’s Sexuality Education webpage and attached below.

Georgia’s Senate Bill 287 mandates that all students in grades six through twelve receive instruction concerning trafficking prevention and awareness. Teen-age children and young adults are some of the highest-risk populations and traffickers are targeting them to become both victims and perpetrators. In fact, many child victims of human trafficking are students in American school systems. We can save lives by teaching students how to recognize the warning signs of human trafficking and who to contact for assistance.
