Chattooga County BOE Changes Millage Rate Meetings Dates

Please be advised that the Chattooga County Board of Education is changing the dates for the Public Input on Millage rate meetings.

The two meetings that were scheduled for August 19th at 9:30am and 5:30pm have been postponed until August 26th at 9:30am and September 2nd at 5:00pm and 6:00pm.

The Millage Rate will be set at a called meeting on September 2nd at 6:30pm.

All meetings will take place at the Chattooga County Education Center, located at 206 Penn Street in Summerville.

Superintendent Hosmer says the change was needed because: “There was an issue with the advertisement that ran in the paper. The ad announcing the tax meetings must be a specific size (30 sq inches) and the one that ran was only 28 sq inches.  Nothing is changing except the size of the ad and the dates of the meetings.”

NOTICE OF PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

The Chattooga County Board of Education has tentatively adopted a millage rate which
will require an increase in the property tax by 4.58 percent.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at
the Chattooga County Education Center located at 206 Penn Street Summerville GA on
8/26/2021 at 9:30AM.

Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase will be held at the
same location on 9/02/2021 at 5:00PM and 6:00PM.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 12.4040 mills, an increase of 0.543
mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 11.861
mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $75,000 is
approximately $15.25 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with
a fair market value of $50,000 is approximately $10.86.
