Lanham Named Athletic Director of the Year

Trion High School’s Jason Lanham has been named the Region 6A Athletic Director of the Year.

Trion High School’s Jason Lanham has been named the Region 6A Athletic Director of the Year.

“In this unprecedented difficult sports year due to all the circumstances surrounding Covid-19, it was very encouraging and uplifting to receive this honor. I am extremely blessed to work in a place like Trion, the entire administration from top to bottom is always focused on trying to do what is best for our students in both athletics and the classroom. The bottom line is when you are surrounded by great people, it makes it much easier to do great things. Region 6A has long proud tradition of being one of the absolute best Class A Regions in the state and I am honored to represent it as AD of the year,” Lanham told AllOnGeorgia.

Lanham said, “high school athletics serve a great purpose to a student’s overall high school experience, it literally created some of the best memories from my youth, there is nothing like being a part of a team to build character and form life long bonds of friendship.”

Lanham has been coaching for over 20 years at various levels and currently serves as the head softball at Trion High School.  Lanham has over 250 high school career baseball wins and 241 high school softball wins. Also during his time at Trion, he has served with the THS football team as a varsity assistant football coach and special teams coordinator.

In 2018 Lanham was named Trion’s Athletic Director. The requirements of an AD have changed over the years, and this year the duties have been more like an administrative type position with the Georgia High School Association requiring much more information from each sport because of COVID. Also due to COVID there are constant scheduling issues and the difficulties of getting the number of games in for each sport.

Lanham is seeing the same success in his role as AD as he has as a coach.

Lanham has numerous accomplishments during his tenure at Trion High School including being named the 2019 GADC Class A Coach of the Year, the 2017 Georgia Dugout Club Single A Softball Coach of the Year, the 2016 Chattanooga Times Free Press Scrappy Moore Overall Coach of the Year Finalist, the 2016 Chattanooga Times Free Press “Best of Preps” Baseball Coach of the Year, the 2015 Georgia Dugout Single A Softball Coach of the Year, the 2015 Region 6A Head Coaches Selection Softball Coach of the Year, the 2015 GACA Region 6A Softball Coach of the Year, and the 2014 Rome News Tribune Softball Coach of the Year and many awards for maintaining the field of the year.

Out of all of his awards and accolades, when asked what was the greatest, Lanham said, “my greatest reward is my salvation. I thank God everyday for the blessings in my life, no matter the circumstances I can rest assured God in in control.”

All great coaches seem to live and coach my mottos, Lanham is no different. He shared three of goals/mottos that he tries to put into play everyday with AllOnGeorgia:

“Leave it better than you found it:  basically everyday you can make things better, always be improving.

To Whom much is given much is expected: this means when you are trusted with responsibility you are obligated to do your absolute best for everyone

Last but certainly not least, have a servants heart: this means do the little things, do the unnoticed things, work for others and care for others with your full heart.”
