Bulloch Commissioners Weigh Reducing Recycle Center Days

At the Bulloch County Commission meeting in early September, public comment was heard from Clito resident Pam Davis who expressed concern over the possible closure of recycling and bulk waste centers around the county to cut costs.

Davis told Commissioners there is already a huge problem with citizens dumping tires and bulk waste on private property and on the side of the road, so it would exacerbate the problem to close strategically located centers.

County manager, Mr. Couch, offered his opinion on the situation, expressing that no decision has been made yet, and that the county is reconsidering how to restructure. Instead of fully closing centers, it is possible that some centers will see reduced hours on some days, and be closed on other days all together.

Mr. Couch also expressed the issue of abuse and an inability to regulate people who are taking advantage of the centers, despite the recent installation of cameras.

The issue is still being considered. The Commission will meet again on the third Tuesday of September.
