Brunswick sets record in June

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 481 active job postings in metro Brunswick for June.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Brunswick set a record in June for total jobs.

Brunswick, according to preliminary numbers, posted monthly gains in jobs, labor force and employed residents. Meanwhile, the number of unemployment claims fell for the three-county metropolitan statistical area (MSA).

“June was a very strong month for Georgia,” Butler said. “A number of local communities set records as the state added more than 20,000 jobs. Plus, we continued to add to our labor force and see the number of unemployment claims fall. Our local communities continue to prosper.”

Brunswick ended June with 46,500 jobs – a new record high. That’s an increase of about 600 from the job total as of a year ago and it’s up 200 from last month’s total.

Brunswick also posted gains for jobs in private services.

Nationally, the unemployment rate inched up 0.1 percentage points in June to reach 3.7 percent. Georgia’s rate dropped 0.1 percentage points to settle at 3.7 percent.

Brunswick’s unemployment rate rose in June, up by 0.3 percentage points to settle at 3.7 percent. A year ago, the rate was 4.1 percent.

The labor force increased in June by 322 to reach 54,541. That number is down by 248 from the total of last year.

Brunswick ended June with 52,536 employed residents. The number climbed by 144 in June and was up by seven as compared to June 2018’s total.

The numbers of unemployment claims fell in June by 24 percent and were down by 22 percent from the same period last year.

Claims were down in manufacturing.

The three-county MSA includes Brantley, Glynn and McIntosh counties.
