Chattooga FCCLA is bringing home THREE National Champions!!!

Chattooga High School FCCLA had three students attend the National Leadership Conference for their STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) events. The 2019 National Leadership Conference was held June 30 – July 4 in Anaheim, CALIFORNIA. 

And…Chattooga FCCLA is bringing home THREE National Champions!!!

The three students competed individually in Advocacy, Entrepreneurship, and Interpersonal Communications and they are all bringing home GOLD. “Our last day of California dreaming was eventful! We survived an earthquake, received three GOLD medals and danced the night away with Mickey and Minnie. Thank you to all that have prayed and supported us on our journey to California! We have had a blast learning, growing and showing what our TRIBE is all about,” Instructor Kayla Hartline said.

Gold Medal winners: 

Blake Bonnano competed in Entrepreneurship senior category, and the name of his project is ‘Must be Bonnano’s’. His project focus was on creating and planning a business, while also coming up with concepts and forming a budget for his business. Blake placed 1st in the region, and 2nd in the state, and won gold in California. 

Savannah Turner competed in Interpersonal Communications senior category, and the name of her project is ‘Twin Talk’. Her project focused on strengthening the bond  between her and her twin brother by using communication skills. Savannah placed 1st in the region and 2nd in the state, and won gold in California. 

Karsen Gilliam competed in Advocacy senior category and the name of her project is ‘Less is More’. Her project focused on the positive effects of the four-day school week, and she served her community and peers as a student advocate. Karsen placed 1st in the  region and 1st in the state, and won gold in California.  

Over 8,000 members and advisers attended FCCLA’s National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA June 30-July 4, 2019.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national Career and Technical Student Organization that provides personal growth, leadership development, and career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education.

Their Mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through: character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
