Fort Stewart & Hunter Army Airfield Earn Dept of Defense’s Highest Award

Each winning installation will receive a commemorative trophy and flag and a congratulatory letter from the president. 

As the winners of the Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield earned one of five top spots across U.S. military installations worldwide for its achievements in installation management, including “mission support, energy conservation, quality of life and unit morale, environmental stewardship, real property management, safety, health and security, communications and public relations.”

Senior Commander:  Maj. Gen. Leopoldo A. Quintas, U.S. Army
Garrison Commander:  Col. Jason A. Wolter, U.S. Army

The installation’s status as 2019 Army Communities of Excellence gold winner was a prerequisite to compete for the award. Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield has won the Army Communities of Excellence gold seven times, in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012, 2015 and 2019.

Excellent installations enable better mission performance and enhance the working and living conditions for military men and women, Department of Defense civilians and their families. Each of the winning installations excelled in performing installation management within their military service and the Defense Logistics Agency.

Each winning installation will receive a commemorative trophy and flag and a congratulatory letter from the president.

I also thank installation leaders Garrison Commander Colonel Jason Wolter and Major General Lee Quintas for their outstanding leadership.”

“This special recognition is a testament to the hard work of dedicated military and civilian personnel at Fort Stewart,” said Senator Perdue. “Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield play an integral role in our national defense and strategic deterrence. I’m proud that the Department of Defense has recognized this incredible Georgia-based installation and all the men and women who work there each day.”
