Chattooga High School Powerlifting Athletes Aleigha Satterfield, Mia Crider, Tabitha Neal, Haley Howington, Jackson Eckroat, Chandler Fowler, Elijah Palmer, Dion Kelley, Nolan Stinson, Thor Hodges, Logan Cundiff, Alex Mears, Blake Herrell, Cody Maynard and
Luis Medina competed in the USA Powerlifting Georgia High School State Championship on Saturday, March 9 in Duluth, Georgia.
Chattooga Coaches Hammon, Wheeler, Peppers, Smith and Hodges accompanied the powerlifting team.
Seventeen total teams attending the State Championship weight meet.
Chattooga High School claimed the Boys and Girls State Championship which was sweet redemption for both squads after a one-point loss for the boys and second place finish for the girls last year. Mia Crider (132) set the Georgia record in Squat with 220.5 lbs and Mackenzie Blackmon (123) set the Deadlift record for Georgia with 226 lbs during that second place effort in 2018.
The Chattooga Boys team earned 26 points, claiming the title over Bleckley County with 23 points and Dade County with 19 points.
The Girls team won the state championship with 27 points, blasting the other competition away. Lassiter Girls finished second with 10 points followed by Parkview with 7 points.

Former Chattooga powerlifter T.J. Adams (285) still holds the Georgia High School record for Squat- 600.8 lbs and Bench press- 352.7 lbs and Total Weight- 1427.5 lbs. The 2019 team wins are more continued success for Chattooga powerlifting and the coaching staff couldn’t be more excited with the progress. “What a great day to be a Indian,” said Chattooga Coach Charles Hammon. “Every pound counted today and our two teams were ready for it. Great way to bounce back from the one point loss with the boys and second place finish from the girls last year. Proud to be on this bus on the way home with this great group of young adults who are Georgia State Champs.”
