Bulloch Commissioners to Vote on $345,000 Contract for Jail Redesign

The Bulloch County Board of Commissioners will decide whether or not to approve a contract for the design services of the jail renovation and addition project at the February meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening.

The contract with Studio 8 Design is for $345,000 and is based off a study, which was already paid for in the amount of $30,000, conducted previously. The proposal accounts for the budget of renovations which is broken down as follows:

  • $3,950,000 for the jail intake building
  • $930,000 for the maintenance building
  • $110,000 for laundry

If approved, the $315,000 remaining (due to the study payment already being made) would cover the travel costs for Studio 8 Design, which is based in Valdosta. The grand total paid to Studio 8 Design would not include additional survey costs and construction tests, an additional set of fees that would be paid by the county.

The item is part of the Consent Agenda for the Commission meeting, which means the item will be voted on with a number of other items and no discussion, unless one of the Commissioners requests that the matter be removed from the Consent Agenda and voted on separately.
