Ossoff Criticizes Trump Administration for Laying Off Over 1,000 CDC Workers

In a significant workforce reduction, the Trump Administration has laid off more than 1,000 employees at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), impacting over 10% of the agency’s personnel.

U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff criticized the decision, calling it an “indiscriminate firing” that could weaken the nation’s ability to respond to public health threats.

The layoffs come as the Senate debates the confirmation of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., whose past remarks about the CDC have drawn controversy.

Sen. Ossoff questioned the potential consequences of the staffing cuts, stating, “If this Administration guts and gags the CDC, who is going to defend the nation from Ebola? Who is going to protect kids from measles? Who is going to save us from TB?”
