Statement by Speaker Jon Burns on Governor Kemp’s State of the State Address

Today, Governor Brian Kemp delivered his State of the State Address before a joint session of the General Assembly at the State Capitol. Georgia House of Representatives Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) issued the following statement on Governor Kemp’s remarks:

“I commend Governor Kemp for using his State of the State address to focus on issues that matter to Georgia families – education, health care and public safety. We are working to see that we train more medical professionals and make health care more accessible. We are increasing funding for public education – to reward our school teachers and increase HOPE Scholarship funding. We also share an unwavering commitment to keep our communities safe – ensuring the prosecution of gang members and combatting human trafficking. I join Governor Kemp in thanking the brave men and women of law enforcement who put their lives on the line to keep us safe.

“Governor Kemp and I share a positive vision for Georgia – one in which we continue to expand opportunity in every corner of our state. His first term as our governor saw record-breaking private-sector investments, creating more jobs for Georgians. In his second term in office, we will continue to keep our economy strong and maintain our best-in-the-nation reputation for business. We will focus on issues like talent development and safe, affordable housing to meet the demands of an ever-growing workforce – one that is ready for the new jobs being created here in Georgia.

“I will continue to work with Governor Kemp, as well as Lt. Governor Jones and my colleagues in the General Assembly, to serve our citizens and keep Georgia the state that businesses and families want to call home.”
