Polk County Board of Elections Senate Nominations Open

Georgia State Senator Jason Anavitarte announced that he will be accepting applications to be nominated for a position on the Polk County Board of Elections.

“As the state Senator who represents all of Polk County in the Senate, my role in this process is simply to submit a list of nominees to the Polk County Board of Commissioners for their consideration,” said Sen. Anavitarte. “Polk County is growing steadily, and expanding the Board of Elections from three members to five is a step to ensure that all of our citizens have access to free, fair and secure elections. I look forward to reviewing the applications, and encourage anyone who has an interest in serving the public while facilitating democracy to apply for nomination.”

The Polk County Board of Elections was expanded from three members to five pursuant to House Bill 713, which passed the Georgia General Assembly earlier this year and was signed into law May 3, 2023. While the Polk County Board of Commissioners retains appointing authority, HB 713 specifies that the Board of Commissioners must appoint one member from a list of nominees provided by the House member(s) who represent Polk County, and another member from a list of nominees provided by the Senate member(s) who represent Polk County.

Applicants must be residents of Polk County and the window to apply will close June 20, 2023. Interested parties are asked to fill out a short application stating their interest in serving on the Board of Elections with a resume attached here.
