House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies Announces 2025 Meeting Dates & Locations

Meetings of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies will be livestreamed and are open to the public.

State Representative Mark Newton (R-Augusta), chairman of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies, today announces the dates and locations for the 2025 meetings.

“As a physician in Georgia’s medical community, I’ve seen how critical it is to provide safe, effective care to patients across our state,” said Rep. Newton. “Through these meetings, we will evaluate Georgia’s current laws and regulations surrounding medical marijuana, cannabis-derived medications and hemp products. I’m committed to identifying ways to improve patient safety while offering clear, consistent guidance for physicians statewide. I’m grateful to Speaker Burns for the opportunity to lead this important study, and I look forward to working alongside my colleagues as we thoughtfully examine this area of policy and its impact on patients, providers and the public.”

The meeting dates and locations for the 2025 meetings of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies are as follows:

  • Tuesday, July 29 – Atlanta
  • Thursday, August 21 – Augusta
  • Thursday, September 18 – Macon
  • Tuesday, October 14 – Atlanta

Specific meeting times and location information will be announced prior to each meeting.

Meetings of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies will be livestreamed and are open to the public.

The members of the study committee are as follows: State Representative Jordan Ridley (R-Woodstock), State Representative Robert Dickey (R-Musella), State Representative David Clark (R-Buford), State Representative Alan Powell (R-Hartwell), State Representative Spencer Frye (D-Athens), State Representative Al Williams (D-Midway), State Representative Michael Smith (D-Marietta) and State Representative Brent Cox (R-Dawsonville). Robyn Fowler and Wesley Dunn will serve as non-legislative members.

The House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Georgia’s Medical Marijuana and Hemp Policies will study and evaluate Georgia’s current laws, policies and procedures surrounding medical marijuana and other cannabis-derived drugs and hemp products. The committee will compile a report of specific findings or legislative recommendations to ensure the safety of patients and consumers, as well as regulatory clarity for physicians and for distributors of cannabis-derived and hemp products.

Representative Mark Newton represents the citizens of District 127, which includes portions of Columbia and Richmond counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2016 and currently serves as the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education. He also serves on the Defense & Veterans Affairs, Health, Rules, Small Business Development, Transportation, Ways & Means and Urban Affairs committees.
