South Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Sergeant Promoted to Captain – Will Lead NW GA Region

Earlier this week, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division promoted Sergeant Al Greer to the rank of Captain and announced that he will be the new supervisor of Region I, which covers 28 counties in northwest Georgia and includes the City of Atlanta. He steps into the vacancy created when Captain James McLaughlin was promoted to Lt. Colonel of the Division.

“Captain Greer has a reputation of professionalism and hard work, and I am confident that will continue in his new assignment,” said DNR Law Enforcement Director Colonel Mike England. “He will be an outstanding leader for our northwest Georgia region.”

Greer began his career with DNR Law Enforcement in 2000 and has served his entire career in Region V (southwest Georgia). He was originally assigned to Dougherty County. He transferred to Turner County in 2002 and to Crisp County in 2011 and has served there since, where he supervised the Lake Blackshear game wardens.

He graduated from the DNR Leadership Academy in 2018 as well as the Georgia Law Enforcement Professional Management Program (PMP) at Columbus State University in 2015, where he completed his bachelor’s degree.

Captain Greer is a P.O.S.T. Instructor and the Lead Instructor for the Game Warden Academy’s Defensive Tactics course at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.

Greer’s new role as Captain will be effective on December 1st.
