GBI Investigates Death at Swallow Creek Wildlife Management Area in Towns County

At the request of the Towns County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, GBI agents are investigating the death of Trevonte Jamal Shubert-Helton, age 29, of Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia.

The investigation shows that Shubert-Helton was discovered by a hiker at the Swallow Creek Wildlife Management Area during the afternoon hours of February 21, 2024. The hiker contacted Towns County 911 to alert authorities about the death. The preliminary investigation indicates this death is an isolated incident and Shubert-Helton was by himself at the WMA.

Shubert-Helton will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be performed..

This investigation is active and ongoing.

UPDATE – The investigation into the death at High Shoals Falls reveals the victim’s identity as Trevonte Jamal Shubert-Helton, age 29, of Sautee Nacoochee, GA. Initial investigation indicates the death is an isolated incident. Shubert-Hilton will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiners Office where an autopsy will be performed. Sheriff Ken Henderson states that an investigation into the death of Mr. Shubert-Hilton will remain active and is continuing.

ORIGINAL – At 2:01 pm, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Towns County Sheriff’s Office received a call to High Shoals Falls for a person hanging from a tree by a rope. Towns County Sheriff’s Office has asked the GBI for assistance. Towns County Sheriff’s Office, DNR, and GBI are working to determine the identity of the individual and a cause of death.
