GBI Arrests Two Jenkins County Minors after Escape Attempt in Burke County

The GBI has arrested and charged Brandon Davis, age 14, and Corinthian Newton, age 15, both of Millen, Georgia with two felony counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer with a Firearm. On March 21, 2024, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate.

The investigation shows that Davis and Newton escaped from a Jenkins County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Georgia Highway 56 in Waynesboro while being taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Augusta, Georgia. Davis and Newton escaped from the rear seat of a Jenkins County Sheriff’s Office patrol car and were able to overpower the Sheriff’s Deputy and take his service weapon. During the escape, Davis and Newton shot at the Jenkins County Deputy as well as a Burke County Deputy. Davis and Newton were captured after a lengthy manhunt involving numerous law enforcement agencies.

After being processed at the Burke County Jail, they were taken to the Augusta Regional Youth Detention Center where they are being detained.

Davis and Newton are being charged as adults.

Once the investigation is complete, the case will be given to the Augusta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
