Burke County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded Monday to a residence for an unresponsive child. The one year old had been discovered in four feet of water. Despite efforts to revive her, the child was pronounced deceased at Burke Health. After investigating the scene, the child’s mother, Alisha Stevens, was arrested and charged with one count of murder in the second degree. She remains in the Burke County Jail. This is an ongoing investigation.
