OPINION: Superintendent Woods Calls for $10,000 raise for teachers, competitive pay for support staff, and other policies to strengthen Georgia’s classrooms

Superintendent Woods is calling for an additional $10,000 in raises for Georgia teachers and certified staff over the next five years. We’re making this proposal because of Georgians like Lamar, a beginning teacher with a college degree who only makes $43,592 on the teacher salary schedule. Despite recent pay increases, Lamar must hold down an additional job to make ends meet, forced to balance his passion for teaching with earning additional income.
