Toby Maddux: From Gridiron Dominance to Wrestling Excellence
Toby Maddux is seamlessly transitioning from the gridiron to the wrestling mat, displaying total domination that has earned him a 15-0 record as a 190lb senior.
Maddux had an impressive performance at the GHSA state duals tournament, getting quick pins in all of his matches.
Coach Eric Brock acknowledges Maddux’s exceptional talent: “Toby is a very gifted wrestler who has accomplished so much in the sport.” However, Brock emphasizes that Maddux’s greatest achievement extends beyond the mat, highlighting the outstanding character he has developed. “He is a great young man who will accomplish even bigger things in life.”
Maddux’s high school wrestling career began at 152 pounds during his freshman season for the Bulldogs. Through remarkable growth and unwavering work ethic, he has compiled an extraordinary 115-7 record, securing two individual state championships.
“I have changed a lot as a wrestler over the years,” Maddux said. “I am more confident in myself when I step out on the mat compared to my freshman year.”
Maddux said he has set his sights on new goals, “my goal this season is to finish off with my 3rd traditional state title.”
Reflecting on fond memories, he highlights winning the state championship as a team during his sophomore year as a particularly cherished moment.
Looking beyond high school, Maddux has ambitious plans for the future. “After graduation, I plan on attending college, majoring in business and minor in finance. I will also be continuing my football career.”
As Toby Maddux continues to dominate on the mat, his impressive achievements and future aspirations showcase a well-rounded athlete with a bright path ahead.
