Trion Receives Flag

“Tonight two members of the U. S. Air Force are making a presentation of a United States flag to Trion High School. This flag was hand-carried in January 2016 to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.  There two Master Sergeants met and found out that they were from the same town in Northwest Georgia, Trion.  Master Sergeant Jeremy Akerson (THS Class of 1998) is stationed in Virginia and carried this flag to six military installations in the Republic of Iraq. Presenting the flag tonight is Master Sergeant Norman Gaither, a longtime resident of Trion and a member of the Tennessee Air National Guard. Sergeants Gaither and Akerson were deployed to Al Udeid Air Base from January through July 2016 in support of Operations Freedom’s Sentinel and Inherent Resolve.  These Cable Dawgs were assigned to the A6 Communications Directorate of the Combined Air Operation Center (CAOC).  Their duties included installing and maintaining the communication infrastructure used in the 27countries within the U. S. Air Force Central Command Area of Responsibility (AOR). This flag is presented to Trion High School and the Town of Trion to honor those who have proudly served in the Armed Force of the United States through the years.
