For Trion Bulldog linebacker Malik Martin his four year high school football career has come to a close on a high note after being selected Defensive Player of the Year for Region 6A and also recently the Atlanta Journal Constitution added to Martin’s recognition by naming him an All State Linebacker.
Martin shared the credit with his team, “I couldn’t have done it without my team and my coaches.”
Malik started all four years at the linebacker position and led the team in tackles all four years. It’s safe to say Malik Martin will be missed on the gridiron in Trion.
His career stats rattle off like this: recorded 351 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 18 sacks. This season Malik had 88 tackles, 1 interception and four sacks. Offensively he rushed for 795 yards and 14 total touchdowns.
Linebackers Coach Groce has enjoyed working with Martin and had this to say: “For 4 years I tried my best to not over coach him, because he has instincts as a linebacker that you can’t coach. He has always worked extremely hard off the field in the weight room and in film study preparing himself for the game. His ability to play in space for pass coverage and strength to play a run fit inside has made him a terror for opposing offenses.”
Head Coach Justin Brown commented, “I am so proud for Malik, he has worked his tail off for 4 years and deserves these honors.”
With great academics and on the field performance Martin is currently being recruited by multiple schools and has yet to make his final commitment.
