Trion Baseball continues to prove why it’s one of the most respected programs in the region — and this year’s All-Region selections are just the latest evidence.
Several Bulldogs earned spots on the 7A-DII All-Region Team, with Ben Shepherd being named Overall Region Player of the Year and Ely Cooper recognized as Captain. A total of seven players made First Team All-Region, with two additional Bulldogs earning Honorable Mention.
All-Region Selections:
-
Player of the Year: Ben Shepherd
-
Captain: Ely Cooper
-
First Team: Ben Shepherd, Logan Stokes, Gavin Stivers, Sam Mobbs, Kade Smith, Will Groce, Christian Henderson
-
Honorable Mention: Jake Dawson, Max Sagram
Trion Head Coach Jason Lanham had high praise for Shepherd, who dominated both on the mound and at the plate this season.
“Ben had a truly remarkable season,” Lanham said. “He went 8-2 as a pitcher with a 1.54 ERA and 101 strikeouts. Included in those numbers were three no-hitters, one of which was a perfect game. At the plate, Ben hit .458 with 41 RBIs, including 17 extra-base hits — 11 doubles, 1 triple, and 5 home runs.”
Shepherd, who was also named Trion Baseball MVP and entered the year as a Preseason All-State selection, certainly lived up to the hype — and then some.
“I’m quite certain he’ll be receiving All-State honors when those are announced later this month,” Coach Lanham added. “I could not be more proud of Ben for all his hard work and dedication. He was a workhorse for Trion Baseball in all areas. Thank you, Ben Shepherd, for doing things the right way — the Bulldog way — and a job well done!”
Congratulations to all these young men for their well-earned accolades. The future of Trion Baseball remains bright — and this group has left a legacy to be proud of.
