The Chattooga boys’ basketball program continues to see success! After beating the hometown rival, the Trion Bulldogs, 89-42, the “Red Machine” went on to play in the Cherokee County Holiday Invitational in Alabama where they claimed their second tournament championship for the season.
Tournament games were played on the campus of Gadsden State at the Cherokee Arena in Centre. Chattooga defeated Cedar Bluff in their first game of the tournament by a final score of 76-52. Dee McCutchins lead the team with 18 points. Isaiah Foster added 15 points, and Jay Broome also added 10. Chattooga’s second opponent, Piedmont, couldn’t hang with the Indians’ fast-paced style. The final score was 77-57.
Isaiah Foster led the team against Piedmont with 20 points. Isaac Foster and Jay Shropshire each contributed 11 points. The Chattooga boys defeated Sand Rock by a final of 73-66 to earn the tournament championship.
The Indians will host their own Christmas Tournament beginning tomorrow. Games will be played both in the Tribe Pride Arena (new gym) and the War Lodge (the old gym).
Coach Jared Groce recognizes his boys are playing ball, “10 wins and two tournament championships by Christmas isn’t too shabby, but we still have room to improve, and we have a lot of region games left that will determine how successful our season will be. I am very proud of the boys and their hard work to this point. If we stay hungry and humble, I fell that we can continue to reach our goals.”
