The Chattooga Indian Basketball team will play for the Region 7-AA Championship tonight at 8:30 at Model High School. The Indians defeated the Coosa Eagles by a score of 68-42 last night to advance to the championship game tonight.
“I’m really proud of the passion and intelligence that our entire team played with, we are very excited to have the opportunity to play for the region championship,” said Chattooga Head Coach Jared Groce.
Dee McCuthins came out after halftime last night ready to win, the game was a little too close for his liking. In the third quarter alone he sunk six two-pointers and followed up with three more in the forth quarter, contributing 18 points in the second half and a total of 23 points for the game. Isaiah Foster and Jay Shropshire both scored 12 points for the Indians in the win.
Coach Groce also took the time to explain why Chattooga, the number one seed is playing away. Before the 2014-2015 season, the region voted in favor of a 2-year agreement regarding Region Tournament locations followed by certain guidelines: for 2014-2015 Region Tournament first round games would be hosted by the Girls’ regular season Region Champion and Semifinals and Finals games hosted by the boys, this season is a flip of that guideline. For the Region Tournament First Round hosted by Boys’ regular season Region Champion and Semifinals and Finals games hosted by the Girls’ regular Season Champion. Model’s teams won the regular season championship on the boys’ and girls’ side in 2014-15. Therefore all Region Tournament games will be played at Model.
Recently three of Chattooga’s players were selected by the head coaches from each boys’ team in the Region to be part of the 1st Team All-Region 7-AA, Dee MuCuthins, Jay Shropshire and Player of the Year for Region 7-AA Isaiah Foster.
Chattooga will host a State Playoff game this Wednesday, February 17th. It will either be against Greater Atlanta Christian or Holy Innocents.
