The Chattooga Indians have had an eventful summer, starting early in June, working three days a week throughout the month. The skill players traveled to Trion for a 7 on 7 workday against Trion, Heritage Catoosa, and Bledsoe County (Tennessee). The following week, the Indians hosted a nine team padded camp going up against Trion, Gordon Lee, and Pepperell. Also, during the month of June, CHS’s offensive linemen attended a camp in Mountain Brook, Alabama.
The team took the mandatory dead week off for the July 4 week and then hit the ground running, working four days a week in July. Last week, the skill players traveled to Rome to throw against Pepperell, and the Indians also hosted a Kiddie Camp for three nights. It’s not expected to slow down as the Indians will be traveling to Tunnel Hill to participate in Northwest Whitfield’s padded camp today.
In addition to all the team competitions, battles are going on for positions and playing time. Braxton Lyons, Jabik Tidmore, and Abe Veatch are all competing for quarterback reps and continue to improve in preparation for the season. Jovonni Hill continues to impress as he pushes starter Aiden Fletcher for carries. With a combination of experienced and youthful players, expectations for the offense continue to rise. Defensively, the line has shown itself to be a strength while Jayden Foster and Javion Cotton have been bright spots stepping into inside linebacker roles.
“It has been a full summer so far. I’ve been proud of our kids’ attendance and the work they’ve put in,” Indian Head Coach Roone Gable said. “We’re excited to wrap up summer and get to the season.”
The Indians will wrap up summer workouts and begin their acclimation week beginning on July 20th in preparation for their fall scrimmage against Trion on August 14 at home.
