The Chattooga Indians football team hit the road Thursday morning for a 7-on-7 passing camp in Cedartown, Georgia. Offensive and defensive skill players competed against Cedartown, Model, and Bremen, getting two solid hours of live reps as the start of the season quickly approaches.
Next up, the Indians will travel to Tunnel Hill next Wednesday for their second and final padded camp of the summer. Chattooga previously hosted an eight-team padded camp back in June.
Both offensive and defensive units have been a work in progress this summer as the team undergoes major scheme changes, but the players have shown tremendous growth. With acclimation practice set to begin July 21st, the Indians continue to build momentum toward kickoff.
Head Coach Roone Gable had this to say: “Today was a great test for us against some strong competition, and overall, the coaching staff felt it was a very productive day. We’ve made big strides since our 7-on-7 sessions back in June. Offensively, we’re building more confidence and gaining valuable experience in our new system. Brock Cooper continues to grow at quarterback—he’s throwing the ball with more confidence and consistency. D’Javi Freeman, Koi Dodd, Kadin Fide, and Titus Hatcher each had a solid day, making several key catches.
Defensively, this kind of competition is invaluable. We just can’t simulate these looks in practice. With eight new starters on defense, every rep counts, and days like today are critical for our growth.
Next week, we’ll get more work in with a 7-on-7 session against Gaylesville and then head to Northwest Whitfield for our final padded camp of the summer. I’m looking forward to seeing how much we’ve improved since hosting our own camp in mid-June. That camp will wrap up our summer schedule as we gear up for official practice and Acclimation Week starting July 21st. We’re just four weeks away from our scrimmage with Sonoraville—this summer is flying by.”
