Honea steps down, Henderson new head of Armuchee baseball

A community mainstay in high school baseball is leaving the bench to devote more time to family. David Honea, head coach of Armuchee baseball, has resigned to spend more time with his children and participate in their activities. He will continue to teach at Armuchee Middle School.

A community mainstay in high school baseball is leaving the bench to devote more time to family.  David Honea, head coach of Armuchee baseball, has resigned to spend more time with his children and participate in their activities.  He will continue to teach at Armuchee Middle School.

Coach Honea began coaching baseball at Armuchee High in 1996 and became head coach during the 2003-04 school year. His teams found success quickly as the Indians advanced to the state playoffs in 2006, 2007, and 2008.  Honea’s most successful team advancing to the “Sweet 16” in in the state playoffs in 2008.

“We are indebted to Coach Honea for the many years of service to Armuchee High School,” stated J.C. Burris, principal of Armuchee High. “He has been a great role model for his players, and many have contacted him since he made the decision to down as head coach to wish him well.”

Honea will be handing the ball to Andy Henderson to take the team forward.  Henderson has been appointed the new head baseball coach at Armuchee High.

Coach Henderson has a long, successful baseball resume. He played college baseball at Jacksonville State University and began coaching there after graduation. He was the head baseball coach at Pepperell High from 2000 through 2003. From 2004 through 2015, he was assistant baseball coach at Shorter University.  Henderson will also serve as an assistant coach for football at Armuchee High.

“I have met with Coach Henderson this week, and I am excited to find such an experienced and successful coach,” commented Burris. “After being out of coaching during the past year, he is anxious and excited about coming to Armuchee High.”
