Senior standout earns Player of the Week honors, sponsored by Jim Aaron’s Summerville McDonald’s

For the past six years, Haley Maddux has poured her heart into the sport of volleyball. Thursday night, all that hard work paid off as she became the first player in Chattooga history to record 1,000 career kills.

Her father — and head coach — Wes Maddux reflected on just how much went into the achievement:

“We knew after her sophomore season that if she stayed healthy, she could achieve her goal. This just didn’t happen by chance. Many people don’t see all the late-night club practices in Dalton, Ringgold, and other areas around Chattanooga—or the travel to Nashville, Huntsville, Gatlinburg, or Atlanta multiple times a season to compete in tournaments. It’s a grind.”

Coach Maddux went on to emphasize that the milestone is both an individual and team accomplishment:

“Haley’s kills would not be possible without great setters, and great setters cannot set without great passers.”

Fittingly, junior Madilyn Wheat was the setter who assisted Haley’s 1,000th kill. Both Wheat and Aurora Ramirez have been key contributors this season, while 2025 graduate Libby Mobbs carried the bulk of the setting duties in years past, finishing her own career with over 2,000 assists.

A Record-Breaking Career

  • Freshman Year: 218 kills

  • Sophomore Year: 352 kills

  • Junior Year: 372 kills

  • Senior Year (so far): 74 kills in just seven matches

In addition to the 1,000 kills milestone, Haley has earned 1st Team All-Area honors the past two seasons, was named to the All-State team in 2023, and received All-State Honorable Mention in 2024.

Building a Legacy

Haley’s volleyball journey began as a 6th grader at Chattooga Middle School and grew through five seasons with Anthem United Volleyball Club in Dalton. Her parents credit club coaches like Tony Hoekstra and his daughter Annie O’Dell for playing a pivotal role in her development and confidence as a dominant hitter.

Haley shared heartfelt gratitude for those who supported her along the way:

“This milestone would not have been possible without God, my family, my coaches, and my incredible support system. I’m beyond grateful for everyone who helped me reach this goal.”

Congratulations to Haley Maddux, AllOnGeorgia’s Player of the Week, presented by Jim Aaron’s Summerville McDonald’s!
