Heartbeat of a Bulldog

Trion Bulldog junior, Lincoln Maddux, has been a steady force for the Bulldogs on the wrestling mat. This post season, Maddux faced a familiar foe in Darlington’s 138 #1 seed, Davis Peek. A narrow loss at the Area Tournament could’ve broken the will of a lesser athlete, but for Maddux, it only strengthened his resolve.
At the Class 1A Sectional A Tournament, Maddux’s epic rematch with Peek was more than a symbolic match. The winner would hold a significant advantage in next week’s State bracket and carry the momentum going into the final week of practice.

Fittingly, the match was tied 5-5 going into third round. Maddux chose the down position, but the Darlington coaches were having none of that. They elected to grant the escape and put both wrestlers on their feet. With Maddux up 6-5, Peek hit his signature pass-bye and scored a two-point takedown to go ahead 7-6.  As the clocked ticked down, Maddux worked constantly on bottom and, with 20 seconds left,  pulled off a beautiful Peterson to score the 2-point reversal and 2 near-fall points.

With the 10-7 victory, Lincoln Maddux won his first Sectional Title and set himself and Trion fans up for a monster weekend in Macon at the GHSA Traditional State Wrestling Championship where he will enter the 138lb bracket as the #1 seed.
