Chattooga High School softball standout Addie Veatch has signed a full scholarship to continue her athletic and academic career at Gadsden State Community College, capping off an exceptional four-year run with the Indians.

Veatch, who maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA throughout her high school career, leaves behind an impressive legacy that includes consistent all-region honors and remarkable batting averages that consistently hovered above .500.

A Career Built on Excellence

The numbers tell a compelling story. Veatch’s batting averages over her four years were nothing short of extraordinary: .475 as a freshman, .571 as a sophomore (a school record), .538 as a junior, and .522 as a senior. In region games this season alone, she batted an incredible .613. Her defensive prowess earned her the Golden Glove Award all four years.

“I am so proud of Addie,” said Head Coach Jeff Bennett. “She came to practice every day to get better with her hitting and fielding, and it has shown by getting a scholarship to Gadsden State. It would not surprise me if she started as a freshman.”

Veatch’s trophy case reflects her dominance on the diamond. She earned first-team all-region honors as a freshman, sophomore, and junior, and was named region player of the year her sophomore season, when she also received second-team all-state recognition. She claimed the highest batting average in her region every year of her high school career and accumulated at least 10 stolen bases each season.

A Special Sophomore Season

For Veatch, one memory stands above the rest. “My favorite softball memory at Chattooga was my sophomore year getting to play with my sister and being named region player of the year,” she said.

That special season included not just the individual accolade, but also the unique opportunity to share the field with her sister, Libby Ann. Coach Bennett, who had the privilege of coaching both sisters during their two years together, reflected on the experience.

“I was able to coach Libby Ann and Addie,” Bennett said. “Libby Ann and Addie played together for two years. It was an honor to coach them both.”

The Recruitment Journey

Veatch’s path to Gadsden State began somewhat unexpectedly during her sophomore year. “The Gadsden State coach came to a game to watch another teammate,” Veatch explained. “After that game, he mentioned to Coach B that he was interested in my abilities and talent.”

That initial interest blossomed into a relationship that would change Veatch’s future. She stayed in contact with the coaching staff and attended two prospect camps. At the second camp, she received an invitation for an official visit, where the coaching staff offered her a full scholarship.

Lessons Learned

Beyond the statistics and awards, Veatch credits her high school experience with teaching her valuable lessons that will serve her well at the next level.

“From Coach B, I learned the importance of teamwork and commitment,” Veatch said. “Softball isn’t just about how you perform, it’s about working together to achieve the same goal.”

Looking Ahead

At Gadsden State, Veatch plans to pursue a major in radiology while continuing her softball career. For someone who has dreamed of this moment since childhood, the opportunity represents the fulfillment of a lifelong goal.

“As a little girl, I always dreamed of playing softball or basketball at the next level,” Veatch said. “I am so thankful for the opportunity to play softball at the collegiate level.”

With her combination of academic excellence, athletic achievement, and work ethic, Addie Veatch appears poised to make an immediate impact for the Cardinals while building toward a successful future both on and off the field.
