Chattooga High School was placed on lockdown Thursday morning after administrators received a threat involving the campus, according to a statement released by school officials.
Upon receiving the threat, administrators immediately enacted established safety protocols and contacted law enforcement. Officers responded to the campus and remain on site as the investigation continues.
School officials confirmed that students and staff are safe and that there is no confirmed immediate danger on campus. Despite the lockdown, instruction is continuing and regular school operations are proceeding as scheduled. The campus will remain on lockdown for the remainder of the school day out of an abundance of caution.
Student dismissal is expected to proceed at the regularly scheduled time and follow normal procedures unless families are otherwise notified.
School officials are asking parents and community members to stay away from campus unless specifically directed to come. Unnecessary traffic to the campus could interfere with law enforcement operations and ongoing safety procedures.
In a statement, school leadership expressed appreciation for the swift response of law enforcement partners and the cooperation of students, staff, and families throughout the situation.
Additional updates are expected to be released as more information becomes available.
