Under the blue lights at Armuchee, the Chattooga Indians secured their first win of the season, defeating the Armuchee Indians 45-27. The victory showcased grit, balance, and momentum that Coach Roone Gable says could be a turning point for the 2025 Indians.
Here’s what Head Coach Roone Gable had to say: “It was a good win for our team Friday night against Armuchee. After the Mt Zion game, we went back to simplifying some things on offense, and I think that has helped us tremendously over the past couple of weeks, and it has given the kids a lot of confidence.” Gable said, “We want to be a hard-nose physical team, and our guys have really embraced that. I was proud of the guys because they had worked extremely hard and done everything. We have asked them to begin the year, but we ran into some pretty good teams while we were trying to figure out who we were as a team.”
Many of the Indians’ underclassmen stepped up and helped them pull out the win. Gable had a lot to say about their performance and who stood out to him. “Our offensive line played well. I tell our offensive guys all the time that we will only go as far as our line takes us, and they played well most of the night. That allowed Aiden Fletcher, Javion Cotton, and Brock Copper to rush for close to 300 yards on the night. We got some positive yards in the passing game with Colton McCary and Koi Dodd catching 3 passes each and a TD to Koi, so that is something we have worked hard on, improving our passing game to help keep defenses honest. Defensively, we had a few breakdowns at times, but played well most of the night. Kadin Fife played well up front with a sack and 3 tackles for loss. Armuchee’s game plan was to try to beat us downfield, and we responded well to the challenge. Colton finished with 6 tackles, and Maijhor had 7 tackles. Titus Hatcher had a big interception in the 2nd quarter that led to a score that put us up big at halftime. And I was very proud of Junior kicker Jose Castro. He made all 6 of his extra points and hit a 40-yard field goal seconds before halftime that gave us great momentum heading into halftime.”
With a big game against Gordon Lee coming up, Gable has a lot to say about practice and the team’s improvements. Gable said, “We face a big challenge in Gordon Lee this week. Everyone picked them to win the region in the preseason, with all the returning starters coming back. Their skill players are as good as anyone around, and they play a very physical style and are well coached. But we are excited about the opportunity to play them. We feel we still haven’t played our best football to this point and continue to improve each week. Plus, we have them at home, and I know we will have a great atmosphere here Friday night, and our boys feed off the energy of our home crowds, cheerleaders, and band. We continue to focus on ourselves each week in practice and getting better as a team.” Gable says, “Obviously, we are preparing for Gordon Lee, but we feel if we continue to work hard and improve on the fundamentals, we will have a chance every Friday night. We have had a good week of practice so far, so we are excited and look forward to the challenge. Improvements to make and hard work being out this week at practice.”
Looking ahead to the rest of region play, this win can serve as momentum for this team. “We are at the halfway point of the season based on our schedule, and we have to make up some ground from our early-season struggles, but our kids remain focused, and we feel we are getting better each week. If we continue to improve and play hard, I have confidence in our guys that we will be in the playoff hunt by season’s end,” Gable said.
The Chattooga Indians will be playing Friday night in a thrilling game at Little Bighorn Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm, so show up and show out.
