.22 Rifle Team Scores Big at the Georgia 4-H Rimfire Sporter competition

Saturday, April 23, the Chattooga County 4-H .22 rifle team traveled to Eatonton, Georgia for the yearly Georgia 4-H Rimfire Sporter competition. This competition took place at the Pioneer Camp at Rock Eagle and there were nearly 50 shooters competing from across the state. Competing from Chattooga County this year were: Cody Conner, Mekenzie Parker, Leslie Thompson, Kendra Conner, and Josh Koonce.
The competitor can choose to shoot in two divisions: telescopic (limited to 6X), and open sights. In each of these divisions the competitors are aiming for the highest score out of 600. They have 3 positions to shoot in: Prone and sitting which are both at a distance of 50 yards and standing at 25 yards. Twenty shots are fired in each position with 10 being precision and 10 being rapid. In the precision there is a time limit of 10 minutes for 10 slow fire shots and in the rapid there are two rounds of 25 seconds for 5 shots each. All of our competitors chose to compete in the telescopic division. Mekenzie also competed in the open sights division.
In the telescopic division, Josh was awarded a Bronze CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) pin, and Leslie, Cody and Mekenzie were each awarded Gold CMP pins. CMP Awards are based on total score rankings. The following are individual placings: Cody 2nd with a score of 594, Leslie 3rd, and Mekenzie 7th. The team, which included Leslie, Josh, and Kendra, placed 2nd overall in the state of Georgia.
In the open sights division Mekenzie was awarded a Bronze CMP pin and placed 1st in the state of Georgia. She achieved Master 4-H status in the .22 rimfire open sights division.
We are very proud of the team and what they achieved. They did an excellent job in representing Chattooga County 4-H.
