Berry Professor Publishes Original Short Story Collection

Godfrey's

A Berry College creative writing professor has published a fictional short story collection “A Preponderance of Starry Beings.”

Assistant Professor of Creative Writing Samantha Edmonds released her novel in June. “A Preponderance of Starry Beings” consists of several dazzling short stories that blend science fiction and fantasy. These stories explore the coming-of-age experience on the outskirts of the universe, whether that be a small Midwestern town or a distant galaxy.

Alongside her new book, Edmonds has also written the chapbooks “The Space Poet” and “Pretty to Think so.” She has won awards for her work, including the Turnbuckle Chapbook Contest in 2019 for “The Space Poet.” Her work has also been published in various publications, including The New York Times and Best Small Fictions 2020 among others.

In July, Edmonds began a book tour to different locations and universities. Additionally, she is giving a panel presentation this year at the Association of Writers & Writing Programs conference, detailing the experience she had publishing with a university press.

“I have always loved reading stories,” Edmonds said. “When I was a teenager, I became really involved with my favorite stories and decided I wanted to try to write my own.”
